Two papers of Jilin University and Anhui University of Technology were withdrawn at the same time: Suspected of being written by a third-party organization

Recently, two research papers from Jilin University and Anhui University of Technology were simultaneously announced to be withdrawn by the same academic journal due to the involvement of a third-party agency in ghostwriting and submitting papers.

On January 18, 2023, the international academic journal "Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine" (Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine) published a retraction statement online stating that , two research papers are retracted at the request of the journal editors and SAGE Press.

    Retraction Instructions January 18, 2023.

The retraction statement stated that after the paper involved was published, the journal realized that the relevant research may have been written and submitted by a third-party organization that was not disclosed at the time of submission. The journal was unable to verify the identity of one or more of the named authors, and they did not respond to requests for comment. Journal editors retracted these papers due to concerns about the involvement of third parties in these papers, and the lack of author responses that called the overall integrity of the study into question. The authors did not respond to a request for comment.

The paper proposed a new algorithm for diagnosing skin cancer, but it was announced to be withdrawn on January 18, 2023.

One of the retracted papers was titled "Optimal skin cancer detection by a combined ENN and Fractional Order Coot Optimization Algorithm", published on July 24, 2022 Published online.

The corresponding authors of the paper are Si Yujuan (sound, Yujuan Si) and Dmitry Bokov (Dmitry Bokov). Among them, Si Yujuan's work unit is marked as the School of Instrument Science and Electrical Engineering of Jilin University, Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology ; Dmitry Bokov's work unit is marked as Moscow State Sechenov First Medical University and Russian Federation Nutrition , Biotechnology and Food Safety Research Center Food Chemistry Laboratory.

According to the official website of Zhuhai University of Science and Technology, Zhuhai University of Science and Technology (formerly Zhuhai College of Jilin University) was established on May 18, 2004. It was approved as a bachelor's degree conferring unit in 2011. In 2013, it signed a joint training agreement with Jilin University for professional master students. In 2021, it was awarded Approved master's degree in Guangdong Province awarded to project construction units.

The above-mentioned papers also include Lina Xu from the School of Instrument Science and Electrical Engineering of Jilin University and Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology, and Zhiqiang Guo from Zhuhai Institute of Science and Technology.

Skin cancer has been recognized as the most dangerous and common type of cancer in recent years, the paper said. This study proposes a new algorithm to efficiently diagnose skin cancer by properly extracting and selecting features (texture and geometric features, etc.) from images, and classifying these features. Both parts of the feature selection and classification stages are optimized by improved meta-heuristics.

However, the above paper was announced to be withdrawn on January 18, 2023.

The paper proposed a new algorithm for diagnosing brain tumors, but it was announced to be withdrawn on January 18, 2023.

Another retracted paper was titled "Brain tumor diagnosis from MRI based on Amended Water Strider Algorithm" and was published online September 29, 2022.

The corresponding author of the paper is Cheng Zhuming (sound, Zhuming Cheng), and his work unit is marked as the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Anhui University of Technology .

The authors of the paper also include Ming Hu, Yingying Guo, Yu Qi, Jiazhi Cui from the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Anhui University of Technology, and Homayoun Ebrahimian from the Department of Engineering, Islamic Azad University Ardabil Branch, Iran.

The paper stated that early detection and early treatment can reduce the mortality rate of brain tumors. However, due to the high complexity of brain tissue, manual diagnosis of brain tissue and tumor tissue is very time-consuming and depends on the conditions of the operator. In particular, specialists are required to identify relevant images, and relevant diagnoses cannot be made when such experienced specialists are not available. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which can image the internal tissues of the human body, has become one of the most widely used technologies in the field of brain tumor diagnosis. In this paper, a new automated method is introduced for efficient diagnosis of brain tumors by MRI. In the proposed method, after the image is preprocessed, a fast method based on Otsu and mathematical morphology is used to segment the image of the part of interest. Then, features of the segmented image are extracted.

However, the above paper was announced to be withdrawn on January 18, 2023.
