On July 18, The Paper learned from the "National Natural Science Foundation of China 2022 Annual Report" published on the official website of the National Natural Science Foundation of China that in 2022, the National Natural Science Foundation of China received a total of 536 reporting cases related to scientific research integrity. A total of 533 cases were investigated and dealt with throughout the year. In addition, the National Natural Science Foundation of China received a total of 47 complaints and reports about the illegal management and use of science fund project funds in 2022, and 16 cases were completed according to the procedures .

The "Research Integrity Construction" chapter of the "National Natural Science Foundation of China 2022 Annual Report" stated that in 2022, 397 responsible persons and 6 supporting units will be dealt with. Among them, 82 people were notified and criticized, 74 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China were withdrawn, and 112 applications for the National Natural Science Foundation of China were withdrawn.

In 2022, the upgrade of the similarity inspection system will be completed, and the high similarity inspection of the National Natural Science Foundation of China project application will be strictly carried out. Based on the inspection results, 112 cases with high similarities in applications were investigated, and 96 responsible persons were severely dealt with, of which 35 were notified and criticized.

In addition , in 2022, the National Natural Science Foundation of China will complete the first joint disciplinary integrity review of the information of nearly 270,000 experts in the review expert database . Classification and labeling are carried out in the fund network information system, and participation in the science fund review is restricted.

The "National Natural Science Foundation of China 2022 Annual Report" stated that the investigation and handling of cases should be increased, and joint punishment in the field of scientific research should be effectively implemented. The National Natural Science Foundation of China convened the 13th to 16th Plenary Committee Meetings of the Fifth Supervisory Committee to provide suggestions for handling 244 important cases that required collective research and judgment.
