A research paper signed by the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University was recently withdrawn because the experimental results could not be repeated or even contradicted.

On July 13, the international academic journal "Cancer Biomarkers" (Cancer Biomarkers) issued a retraction statement online stating, "The corresponding author requested that the article be withdrawn." "The author stated, '...we cannot repeat this result in follow-up experiments .In another prostate cancer cell line (PC3), knockout of Notch1 and LINC01638 even showed the opposite experimental results.'”

The corresponding author of the paper involved is Xing Jinchun, and his signature unit is the Department of Urology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University.

On the 19th, the relevant staff of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University stated that Xing Jinchun is the chief physician of the Department of Urology of the hospital.

The aforementioned retracted paper was published online on June 10, 2019, with the title "LINC01638 lncRNA promotes the proliferation, migration and invasion of prostate cancer cells by interacting with Notch1" (LINC01638 lncRNA promotes the proliferation, migration and invasion of prostate carcinoma cells by interacting with Notch1).

According to the official website of the National Health Commission, Xing Jinchun was notified and dealt with due to scientific research integrity issues.

The content of the notification shows that another paper written by Xing Jinchun as the corresponding author "has been investigated for academic misconduct such as buying and selling data, falsifying the corresponding author's email address, and improper signature." Therefore, Xing Jinchun was "withdrawn from the dissertation, not allowed to participate in the evaluation of the best in 2020, not to apply for various scientific research projects, talent projects and awards at all levels within one year, to suspend the qualifications for recruiting graduate tutors within one year, and to suspend the qualifications for promotion of professional titles within one year."

According to the public notice, after investigation, the papers involved included buying and selling data, falsifying the email address of the corresponding author, and inappropriately signing academic misconduct.

On October 29, 2021, the official website of the National Health Commission notified the above situation in the "Investigation and Handling Results of Medical Research Integrity Cases of Some Institutions (October 29, 2021)", and marked "(notification link: http://www .xmfh.com.cn/info/3849/12322.htm), but the link to the report is no longer valid.

According to information on the official website of the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, Xing Jinchun is the director of the Department of Urology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Xiamen University, director of the Xiamen Urology Center, doctor of medicine, chief physician, professor, and doctoral supervisor.

According to the paper involved, LINC01638 is known as an oncogenic long non-coding RNA in triple-negative breast cancer. But its role in other diseases is unclear. The study found that upregulation of LINC01638 distinguished prostate cancer patients from healthy controls. Both LINC01638 and Notch1 overexpression promote the proliferation, migration and invasion of prostate cancer cells.

However, 4 years after publication, the aforementioned paper was voluntarily withdrawn by the author.
