Mark Tessier-Lavigne, president of Stanford University, announced on the 19th that he would resign as president after the results of a special committee review of his academic misconduct were announced on the 19th. He will leave on August 31.

The Stanford University Board of Trustees formed a special committee in December to investigate allegations of academic misconduct by Tessier-Lavigne. After months of comprehensive inspections, the special committee released a detailed report on the 19th.

According to the report, the investigators focused on reviewing 12 papers signed by Tessier-Lavigne. Among the 5 papers he was the main author of, he found conclusive evidence that some members of the laboratory he was in charge of improperly manipulated scientific research data or had problems with experimental operations, which led to major flaws in the papers, and Tessier-Lavigne failed to take necessary measures to correct related errors.

Tessier-Lavigne stated that he accepted the conclusions of the report, corrected and retracted the relevant papers, and made a decision to resign.

Jerry Yang, Chairman of the Stanford University Board of Trustees, posted on the school's website that he accepted Tessier-Lavigne's resignation and confirmed that he will continue to serve as a tenured professor in the Department of Biology. The Board of Trustees also formed a committee to begin the selection process for the next headmaster, and appointed Richard Sale as interim headmaster from 1 September.
