Chinese scientists discover huge magnetic ring in the Milky Way halo

The reporter learned from the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences that recently, Dr. Xu Jun and Researcher Han Jinlin of the National Astronomical Observatory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences analyzed the distribution data of the Faraday rotation effect of pulsars in the Milky Way and radio sources outside the Milky Way, revealing that there is a huge magnetic ring structure in the halo of the Milky Way. This provides crucial observational results for research fields such as the propagation of cosmic ray particles, the dynamics of galactic gas, and the evolution of cosmic magnetic fields. The results were published in the international scientific journal "The Astrophysical Journal". The research results are of great significance to the study of the overall magnetic field of the Milky Way.
