On August 6, the winners of the 2025 Future Science Prize were announced.
Ji Qiang, Xu Xing, and Zhou Zhonghe won the "Life Science Award" in recognition of their discovery of fossil evidence that birds originated from dinosaurs; Fang Zhong, Dai Xi, and Ding Hong won the "Material Science Award" in recognition of their contributions to the computational prediction and experimental realization of topological electronic materials; Lu Zhiyuan won the "Mathematics and Computer Science Award" in recognition of his inventions and leading contributions in the fields of non-volatile semiconductor memory cell density, device integration, and data reliability.
Established in 2016, the Future Science Prize is a private science award jointly initiated by scientists and entrepreneurs. It aims to reward scientists who have achieved outstanding scientific achievements in China (including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan), using innovative models to attract more private funding to promote basic scientific research in China and advance the development of science. The Future Science Prize currently offers three awards: the Life Science Award, the Physical Science Award, and the Mathematics and Computer Science Award. Nominations are made through a targeted invitational process, and the awards are professionally judged by a scientific committee composed of outstanding scientists, upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and credibility, while maintaining the independence of the awards. To date, the Future Science Prize has held 10 awards, with 46 recipients.
