
According to the "2025 Statistical Report on Chinese Scientific Papers" recently released by the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China, my country's share of the number of hot papers in the world has exceeded half for the first time, reaching 53.2%, maintaining its first place in the world; the number of highly cited papers remains second in the world, and the gap with the United States is gradually narrowing.
Hot papers refer to papers published in the past two years that have received a large number of citations within the statistical period and whose citation count ranks in the top 0.1% of their respective disciplines; highly cited papers refer to papers in their respective disciplines that have been cited in the top 1% of the world's total over the past decade. The report shows that as of August 2025, my country had 2,342 hot papers, an increase of 4.6% compared to the statistics in 2024.
According to the statistical analysis based on the first author and first affiliation, in 2024, my country published 154,900 high-level international journal papers, accounting for 39.2% of the world's total, and the number of citations was 1,011,200. China ranked first in the world in both the number of papers published and the number of citations.
